Cristina- looks interesting. Maybe you could look at tone and line thicknesses to start define foreground and background, depths, datums etc.
the contour lines are clearly very effetive. possibly you could make a drawing that show the contourlines in an isometric projection; that might be the way that you can show how the different folding volumes perform.
